Deer Stalking… reliable word of mouth recommendation from someone you know has undertaken such stalking being offered by a specific syndicate is best. Like other walks of life, stalking has its scammers. E.G., make sure there is deer, of the species sought, on the land being made available; that appropriate insurance is in place; that there is recourse for recompense if it all goes wrong. In addition, obtain and understand terms and conditions; consider the implications of allowing a syndicate leader to be a FAC mentor; make sure ‘coaches’ are suitably qualified; consider the quality of deer management, the construction & execution of a shooting plan and safety; determine if the land is over-shot.

If in doubt, contact BASC or similar.

wellies - thoughts please

#1 Post by Mr_Logic »

Right folks... need a new pair of wellies. I have muck boot speys right now and they are OK but too big. OK for the shooting use they were getting but now my Dubarrys have died I need dog walking boots.

Right now very tempted to just get a smaller pair of mucks. But also tempted by Seeland's one with Vibram sole.

I am after neoprene lined, solid sole. Can't afford to go to Le Chameau et al.

Any thoughts welcomed please!

Many thanks.

I bought some Muck Boots and was very disappointed. The neoprene inside at the heel wore through within about three months. Too painful to wear after that and they went in the bin. Got a pair of Dunlops for £14 and happy with them.

My girlfriend bought me some 'Muddies' wellies 4 years ago as a present. When i saw the 'label' i was less than impressed, however they are great! If i bothered to clean them they'd look the same as when they were new. :good: They've out lasted Hunters, Muck Boots and Le Chameau that more well heeled (or not ;) ) other shooters at my clay club have used.

Thanks Dromia. I did search and did find that thread, but I wanted to focus more specifically on my choices.

I have now ordered a smaller pair of Mucks, because I know they do the job for me and needed to get something sorted. Hopefully they are just right rather than too small!

Thanks all for your help, especially Spud as that would have been a really good solution had the boots been my size :(

I just wanted to add my experiences of buying a pair of HFS side zip neoprene line boots from Sportsman Gun Centre

http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/cat ... twear/HSF/

1st wrong design arrived - but that gave me the chance to see that the size I ordered was way too big.
2nd Correct design arrived but was in the original size.
3rd Correct design arrived and in one size smaller than originally ordered but was still too big.

I have kept them as they are manageable and Will be good with 2 pairs of socks on etc.

They are not a fashion boot in any way shape or size, they are big and clunky.

I find with my trousers tucked in they are tight around the calf.

Sportsman Gun Centre were good to deal with but I have doubts about this boots design. Certainly they are working on a completely different foot size to everyone else in the footwear market.

Try before you buy - and I lost out on P&P and the boot was reduced in price during my process with no refund.

I bought a pair of Hunter neoprenes from John Norris.

He had slight seconds in and the only thing i coudl find was that the hunter badge was not straight. They were over half price.

May be worth web search for hunter seconds. They are cracking boots and all day comfy.
