Yesterday on Stickledown at 1200yds

I can't think of a better way to spend Saturday arvo............just for a laugh, the lady on the right was shooting a Savage mod 12 F/TR with the massive Savage 6BR 30" barrel on, AND it was getting there, with a couple of fives (F-class face) and the rest mostly in the black.

Earlier at 1000yds, the same rifle, lady, and load produced a 15 shot string of 11 x 5's and 4 x 4's, (but only one 'V' wallhead ).........

Excellent shooting, and just the day for it too. I was shooting off the benches on Short Siberia in near perfect conditions. (Grandsons first visit)

I love my 6br F-12 Savage but usually use the Savage F-12 6.5-284 for the longer ranges.

1200 a bit far for open sights.

My club was at 900 Saturday morning.
My 260 its usual boring self!
Interestingly a number of my club mates are muttering about going the 260 route with spare barrels and re-barrelling!
Its a bit like an AI owners club nowadays at my club shoots.
My Mossberg MVP in 223 had its first outing at 900. Its done well at 600 and 800.
And it did pretty well at 900. Its pretty poor at 100 and 200!
I used the old favourite 69gn SMK and Nosler 77gn match.
Didn't change the elevation by more than a couple of clicks between the two and there was little crosswind.
I feel that it deserves an outing to 1000 next!

BNZ said "1200 a bit far for open sights."...............the muzzleloaders were at 1200, shooting with open sights at mounted red indians, and hitting them !!

And at 1000 in the morning, there was a 303 with open sights, hitting the five ring on a TR face..........

We've shot 223 with 80 grain SMK's at 1000yds. Get them up to a decent speed with RS52, and they go well.
