Here are a few teasers before we get on to the actual shooting...

The squads. You may recognise some of the names...
Image

This looks complicated, but once you understand the system it's a very good way of organising the squads into the time available

The mandatory match briefing on the Wednesday evening. Safety information and a chance for Bruce Piatt to ask a lot of questions (you need to be there to get that joke)...

Image

Ruger 9mm pistols, Benelli M2 shotguns and Armalite M15TAC rifles used on the 3 gun stage

Image

Image

Magnum Research MLR22AT .22 rifles (very similar to a 10/22) used on the .22 rimfire stage

Image

Single action .45 revolvers and 1873 carbine .45 Colt rifles on the Cowboy Action stage. This stage is a firm favorite with everyone.

The 2 gun stage - M&P 9mm pistols and M&P 15T 5.6mm Tactical rifles

Image

DMR Challenge stage - JP Enterprises LRP-07 .308 rifle fitted with Nightforce ATACR 4-16 scope. I have one for sale if anyone's interested. The scope, not the rifle!

Briefing notes for the Bullseye Pistol stage

Daryll and myself shooting Stage 2

The end result didn't look great to me, but it was good enough for 17th overall and 6th in class. There's no doubt some practice would have helped us both improve our scores, but I would say neither of us embarrassed ourselves considering we haven't been able to shoot full bore pistols in the UK since the ban.

Image

To put it in context, my score beat Jerry Miculek's and we both did a lot better than many of the big name pro shooters. It just goes to show that with the same equipment, we can compete on equal terms and hold our own against the best American shooters. So come and join us next year and you might surprise yourself!

More to follow later...

Daryll shooting the 3 Gun stage:

First, knock down some pepper poppers with a 9mm pistol...

Image

Then dump it in the bin, pick up the shotgun and let fly at more steels...

Image

Dump the shotgun in the bin and run around the corner where the Armalite is waiting for you. Pick it up and engage the two paper targets with two shots on each...

Image

Then go over to the tail of the plane and hit three steels out at 130-210 yards. Only 15 rounds in the AR magazine, so you needed to make them count.

Image

The steels are flashers which means you have to hit the small round plate, not the large rectangular hit indicator above it!

I only seem to see window stickers like this when I'm in America

Image

Just about to break a clay (I hope) on the Wobble Trap stage. This is a bit like ABT, but harder...
