What were you shooting, it looks like a sporter of some sort.

Its my new to me .308 Mauser. The first time I have shot out to 600 yards with a scope. I never knew you were meant to be able to see the target :-)

Hehe, I know that feeling when I shoot my Steyr, first time I picked it up I could not even see the front sight bead and had to invest in new contact lenses. I think glass spoils us all however it does make life a lot easier when shooting at longer distances especially in low light conditions.

I also shot my K98k which up until yesterday was all I had shot at 600. The front post covers the target.

I like the challenge of irons, but I am shooting for hits, whereas I like the idea of going for groups.

Both rifles are sweet and fun to shoot.

I have fond memories of shooting a K98k belonging to Dirtbag of this forum, he lsft me the rifle and some 1957 dated ammunition at the 1100 yard point, I shot my AI first and scored solid hits then moved to the Mauser, wound the sight round to 1000 yards, sighted up on the target which was a 1,2 metre frame and took the shot and down it went. Miss so I repeated a couple more times before the butts radioed back to say I was just above the target and was it a different shooter. I have loved Mauser rifles ever since and these days have a 6X Pecar scoped FN M1930 chambered in 7,92X57 that works superbly.

I absolutely love my FN K98k with is chambered in 7.62, but it is totally original and I didnt want to spoil it by scoping it, hence the new Mauser.

Now I have the best of both worlds and a long range project rifle to boot.

Nice to hear from a fellow Mauser fan.
