I use the Lidls ones a lot in the workshop without problems, the ones I use are cardboard stemmed.

Oops, just took a closer look and the Lidls ones have plastic stems

I use cotton buds for cleaning and the foam swabs for applying grease and oil as and where necessary. I get my foam swabs off eBay, they are cheaper on there

Well I now have enough cottons buds to clean an orphanage worth of dirty ears lol I've bought them from a variety of sources, all plastic stemmed, but the Johnsons ones are by far the sturdiest and can bend the most before kinking
