Shultz & Larsen M38 #371

#1 Post by Ovenpaa »

This is a Model 38 Schultz & Larsen chambered in 8x58RD with the serial number 371 and these pictures were forwarded to me by Jørgen Christensen. The rifle is fitted with a Zeiss Zielvier 4x32 on EAW mounts fitted by the factory in the late 30's for hunting in Denmark. The rifle belonged to the father of the current owner and he remembers loading the magazine when he was ten years old, good to see he still has his fathers rifle and it looks to be in pristine condition.

Now go back a few years, 5th May 1945 in the Christiansborg area of CPH, the chap in the German helmet is on Fire watch hence the helmet, he is also a member of the Danish resistance. The three are struggling with some 'HIPPO Folks' - Members of the Danish HIPPO Korp who replaced some of the Danish police, especially one HIPPO who was hidden well and shooting wildly. The three are armed with a Sten Gun, a Madsen machine gun both of which are low on ammunition and the HIPPO man is keeping his head low.

The chap in the middle announces he has had enough of this nonsense, rushes home to return with his Model 38 #371. He actually had the HIPPO man in his sights however another resistance fighter shot first and that was the end of the problem.

..and the rifle had probably been loaded by his son, the current owner.
