First probationary club session... CRPC

#1 Post by PaulJC »

After a long time waiting and a friendly interview a few weeks back i had my first evening as a probationer at Cheshunt Rifle and Pistol Club.

I will be completing my probation shooting Gallery Rifle, the club rifle is a Ruger 10/22 .22LR.

I spent the evening watching a few details of Gallery rifle in the dedicated range and then one of the members (i suck with names :$) was kind enough to take time out in the .22 range next door running through safety drill's, loading and reloading practice and shooting at indoor targets from varying distances 10-25yrs, i also had the option of using and spent a bit of time shooting both a scoped rifle and one with a red dot...

I work shifts so unfortunately wont be able to attend every week but am looking forward to slowly learning more and eventually getting integrated in to shooting in the gallery rifle range with others, i'm in no rush and wont even ask until they are happy i am safe and ready to their standards.

I was made to feel very welcome, every seems really friendly and chatty and there was plenty of socialising and offers of tea :)

To be honest this is my experience everywhere I go, everyone's really friendly and helpful. I guess that's one of the benefits of a niche hobby. Good luck with your probation and make sure you ask the people who's rifles you like the look of lots of questions! :)

The older I get the more I enjoy shooting older rifles. We are going to run away to the range this afternoon and I am tempted to take my Mauser M1930 and a P14, plus the trusty Remington Nylon 66 of course. Nothing less than 50 years old today!

Very true - refuse all offers of a go at all sorts of gucci kit unless you have a deep wallet lol

One of the more elderly members of my club let me have a go of his mint '37 dated K98 that he paid about 35 quid for about 4 decades ago, and it's got me seriously looking at K98's now.

Getting onto that gallery range will be the beginning of the end for space in your cabinet!

Gunitis will set in and unfortunatly it is incurable :-)

Paul, it's all down hill from here.

Cheshunt is not too far from me, when you get your membership you'll always be welcome to come to our club to play as well.
I've often passed your range when the flag is up and thought about popping in to have a lokk-see, but the wife always has places to go.

Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.
