Hoppe's 17HMR Boar Snake????

#1 Post by fenman »

Hi All, just tried to clean my 17hmr with my new Hoppe's bore snake & snapped the cored 3 times!!
I used plenty of oil as a lube but still a night mare to do & not looking forward to the next clean.

I clean my shotguns with a bore snake & is a doddle compared to this. Any pointers to what I'm doing wrong

Hi

I have heard of this before with the 17 cal . I think its just to small a hole you could try something like the Otis cleaning system which has a plastic coated wire cable which would be a lot stronger , or just use a rod . I personaly only use the bore snake [.22 ] for a quick wipe out at the end of a shoot then a good cleaning session with the rod .

I am also not a huge fan of boresnakes in such small tubes and would certainly say get a cleaning rod instead, I have read too many horror stories about them snapping and getting stuck with catastrophic consequences.
