New member- Support required for SGC apllication

Hello to all.
I am new to the forum and currently completing the application for my SGC.
I would like to shoot clay pigeon at one of the many shooting clubs locally to me in Northamptonshire.
I have experienced clay pigeon shooting from some corporate and experience days and would like to continue to learn and shoot more formally, also potentially would like to introduce my son to the sport as a "Father and son" activity for the future.

I have a couple of questions regarding the application process.

1. I have a few people who could be referees, however none of the them shoot, so I would like to give them an understanding of the role of a referee, what would be expected of them etc?

2. I was diagnosed last year with Lung Cancer, and I am currently receiving maintenance chemotherapy, which is expected to continue for the rest of my life, (Many years hopefully!!).
Would this illness prevent me from being granted a license?
I understand that a medical report will be required and my GP is very supportive and helpful so I do not expect any negative report.

Any information that you could provide would be helpful.

I'd suggest pointing them towards the BASC Website in the first instance http://basc.org.uk/firearms/how-to-appl ... rtificate/ and then perhaps even inviting them on a pay & play shoot, you never know they might like to start up too.

Ref: Medical condition, I see no reason why that should preclude you from geting a license, it may even be beneficial to your mental well being?

I'm not sure about the lung cancer thing, but I can't see it being a problem, although the police would probably question you closely about being depressed etc.

The referee question is a lot easier. They do not need to be shooters.

Q. Who can act as a referee?

A. The referee(s) who have agreed to act for you must have known you personally for at least two years and must be resident in Great Britain. Referees must not be a member of your family, a registered firearms dealer, a serving police officer or police employee. Referees must be of good character and references must be given freely and not on payment.

All your referee has to do is answer the phone when the Fire Arms Officer rings them, he will ask if they know you and that will be the end of their involvement. At least thats what happened to my referees!

In Essex prostrate cancer was considered worthy of a medical report from my GP and a signature to allow contact with my consultant .
That was for a firearms variation though .

Treatment is going well, "Stable" for almost a year.

Hi all.
I have today posted my SGC application, so fingers crossed.
I have another question about an ammunition safe/storage.
When I enquired about ammunition at my local outlet, the owner suggested purchasing cartridges by the 1000?
From what I have read on the forum, this seems like a lot.
What would you suggest is the right quantity of cartridges to purchase and also, what size of ammunition safe would be suitable?
