It didn't like CCI standard but cycled Centurion HV OK. The CCI would chamber but not all of the way in which resulting in a light strike when I pulled the trigger. It certainly is a heavy old thing but shoots well, it's certainly a crowd puller too.

Just out of curiosity Charlotte, with the stg44 weighing in at 4.5kg, is it eligible for any lightweight sports rifle comps?

I am not sure about national comps but I'm going to use it for my local club ones.

What you need is a .22 version of this:

Very rare, they are thought to have been manufactured with sniping in mind.

Spot on!

I am guessing GSG will bring out a shorter 10 round mag eventually, even better if was metal not plastic.

I have started looking for a suitable 4x fixed and almost went for a sight designed for a H&K G3, but price put me off at £450.

Will live with irons or the 4x Barska for the time being, although may have to make up a high rest to cater for the mega-mag.

I think this might be the way to go in the short to medium term.

Thanks for the link.

Just joined the GSG Stg.44 owing club.....looking forward to giving it an airing at next club shoot.

Shame my old man isn't still around, to give a verdict on it as he got to try out the real thing on a number of occasions in Germany in 1945, as his RE unit collected quite a cache of captured weapons that were used for 'recreational purposes' ;) as well as 'official' use.

A mate has one of these. Great looking gun but does seem to jam regularly.

Shame I was toying with a plain old 'fun' gun for the last .22 slot on my ticket, some of the GSGs look great 'fun' guns but they seem to be so hit and miss quality wise.
