Almost an M1A

#1 Post by Zilberbak »

Always fancied a Springfield M1A so took the plunge with a pre-owned LuxDefTec M14 MLR (straight pull) and only took two weeks for the variation to hit the doormat (well done Gloucestershire). Not sure about the shiny look of the stock and am wondering whether Springfield would sell & send me a Multicam or FDE one or if will fit, we will see otherwise a Cerakote job.

Nice. Needs a proper M1907 sling & a Leatherwood ART II (or similar) - or ya could go all "Blackhawk Down" & shove an Aimpoint on it!! :p

Mate in Florida has the SOCOM version that he reckons is very nice

IF you are binning that stock PM me. There is a chap in the US of A that specialises in M14 stocks of varying grades/conditions.
Need to source a junk one at some point (for a VN-era USMC-sniper-stylee M49 spotting scope "holder") plus a couple or three of the recoil plate assemblies.

Still think a Garand is the only way to rock though! Many happy memories of time on the ranges playing with them in the early 80's.

Excellent, gunlike

I have been watching this on Gunstar, if I would have had the spare folding stuff it was in my cabinet. I have the full wood stocked M14 and they shoot very well. I use the Nato spec GGG with no issues at all action cycles very smooth. Not sure why the seller was selling had a AR which sold some time ago.

Enjoy bangbang

The guy sold it to Shooting Supplies about 3/4 weeks ago and when I popped in for some ammo a couple of weeks back I mentioned that I saw a M14 on Gunstar and low and behold it was suddenly in front of me so had to have it.

Only collected it yesterday and will not get to shoot it for a couple of weeks as off to Sennybridge this weekend and won't risk shooting it until sighted in. Expecting a bit of a kick with the short barrel but hoping it won't be much worse than my Dragunov/Tigr.

The scope is a Sightmark and looks the part but will probably end up with a Vortex on it (or Leatherwood).

A brief look at it last night and a bit confused with the bolt and charging handle arrangement as the bolt does not pick up and go forward when you rack the charging handle. A quick read of the book that was supplied with it did not immediately throw any light on it.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Yes you need a Leatherwood Art II... I have the LDT M14EBR, love it... :)

What do you mean "the bolt does not pick up and go forward when you rack the charging handle?" <-- Is that with or without the mag in?

Had a very short play with it last night as got in late.

The mag was out so may well be because of this. So what is charging procedure?

Have some dummy rounds and will spend time tonight getting to know the whys and wherefores and also strip it down.

I was thinking you might of had a 5-round mag in the rifle and not realised. If the bolt isn't moving with the charging handle, it's possible the 2 have become disconnected. You drop the trigger assembly out of the bottom of the rifle to disassemble it, it's well thought out.
