GSG front sights

#1 Post by froggy »

Does anybody knows the increments of the various front sights provided with the LBP GSG 1911 @25 yards ?

Ie : if the pistol shots about 12cm (abt 4.7 inches for Scottish dinosaurs O:-) ) too high with the front sight marked with 3 dots, I believe the highest, which one should I fit to shoot PoA / PoI ?

I could not find a post already dealing with that prob, if there is one, appologises.

Thanks

Bin the GSG sights and invest in some aftermarket sights. I believe the GSG uses the "Novak" rear sight cut.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Ah well, wise word Sim , but ... skool starting soon & my boy needing shoes (*), I'll have to do with what I have for the moment. Anyway those sights are exceptional, made of the finest plastic there was in that nice chinese factory, nearly as good as those on my AK !

So... back to square one. Has anybody played with them & know the difference of elevation @ 25 yards of the various sights generously provided ? The manual , which is pretty vague, states there is a magnitude of 20 cm between them , so I guess the 2 dots' one should, in theorie, move the PoI by 10 cm ? Any idea what is the value of a "space bar" ?

It looks the highest was fitted in the factory.

I emailed the distributor couple of times and did not get any single answer ...
maybe those sights are for show only O:-)
Before I try them all "try/errors", does anybody has any data ?

I may be being thick here...

If you are using the highest sight post and still shooting too high, you will either need to source a higher front post or adjust the rear. Swapping the front for a lower post will make your POI higher. I don't know with the GSG if the rear sight is adjustable?

The ammo you use will have an effect (standard or subs versus minimags etc) but probably not 12cm.

I had a similar issue with the sights on my Sig522 - the rear didn't adjust enough to bring the POI up even at its highest setting. I had to use shims under the rear.

If you want the most economical solution, you'll have to either add material to the existing front post, or remove from the rear notch. Adding to the front post will be easier and reversible.

To get an idea of how much you need to alter it, glue a section of matchstick on top of the front blade. You might have to colour it in with a black pen. Trim it off so it's square, jobs a good'un. It's not a permanent solution, but will tell you if you need a 2mm higher front blade etc.

Can't the required height be calculated..??

I vaguely remember its something like:

Amount high (12cm) divided by range (25m = 2500cm) x sight radius ( 15cm?), gives about 0.7mm

... or do it by trial and error.. :D

They sell the higher sights (the performance enhancement bushing requires them in many cases) at CW accessories, not sure if AW Armoury can get them? I'm after some too.

Your other option is an adjustable rear (pricey) or a red dot.

Thanks but I really don't like Red Dots on hand-guns. Have you managed to source those higher sights ? BTW , after sending many un-answered e-mails to the UK distributor, I contacted them directly on the phone over 10 days ago. Nice guy but he still has not come back to me .... 8-)

The bugger defo shoots about 13 cm too high ...

Next time I'll try to shoot it without that silly fake moderator to see if it change anything ?
