I'm shooting my lovely SMLE (actually it's a BSA) tomorrow at six hundred yards and I'm really looking forward to doing so. So this morning I went down to the cellar to reload the necessary, only to find that my case lube had disappeared, I suspect it got thrown out after a clear out couple of weeks ago. So what to do? For some time I have been using Lard on top of the balls in my black powder Colt navy to help prevent the chance of flash over. So I used that. It worked just fine. I don't plan to do this on a regular basis as I understand that most Lard contains salt which can't be a good thing. but with scrupulous cleaning after shooting I haven't had a problem with the revolver. anyone else resorted to Lard as a case lube?
My Son pointed out that Imperial sizing wax looks and feels like some hair waxes and I have always meant to test this theory, and they are all waterproof which is good.

separately or mixed? and how did it work out. ease of use? any long term issues? was this just a stopgap until you sourced a branded lube?
It was just a stop gap I used to use Imperial sizing wax but now I use Hornady unique case lube for all my reloading. I purchase it from pukkabundhooks (Adam-Dromia) its as cheap as chips and works in my opinion better than Imperial sizing wax.
