Indeed - and as UK 3gunners are finding, a CO2 pistol is having to be substituted... but if you're shooting man sized tin plates at 20 yards...
Practical disciplines are a tough sell. They shouldn't need to be of course - they are a sporting event and pastime as valid as anything else - but until you see it at the Olympics no-one will be any the wiser.

Yes and no. They are already restricted - we can't bow hunt - but target archery is a perfectly valid sport for which alternatives like air and smallbore archery don't exist. Plus you see it at the Olympics so people aren't scared of it :)

Unfortunately even the Olympic shooting sports are under pressure. Under the guise of equality.
I believe the idea is to drop the 60 shot prone rifle and the 50 metre free pistol events and replace them with air rifle/pistol events.
Of course this makes it a much easier to stage the "shooting" events, a village hall would do. If free pistol was dropped from the Olympics then I don't think it would survive.

..and excitement / marketability / drive to increase audiences. That's why they prefer team events, or 3P where the result is uncertain until the end.

I said the same a couple of pages back. I can understand it, I just don't like it :)

The frustrating thing for me is that the handgun ban has made no difference to gun crime in my opinion, if your a criminal with intent I'm sure you can acquire a handgun if you really want to.
It was never about crime, the government just used tragic events as an excuse to ban pistols.

Target? What distances are they shot at? If 10yds and 25m, air is perfectly capable of the same. The 50m and or rapid fire cartridge disciplines are obviously outside of this, but then that's smallbore...
I would be delighted if full-bore handguns made a return, but can you imagine debating it in Parliament?
