I would love to go...

So would I but it's just a bit too far away to fit the trip in. Was lucky enough to see Mallard when I was a kid- it used to be in the old transport museum in Clapham in the late '60s - but would be great to see the lot of them together in York...

That is my problem as well. Just too far to go and not enough time. Maybe one day when I have retired and I have all the time in the world...

Here's a piccy of my brother-in-law on the footplate of the Sir Nigel Gresley at full steam going through Gerrards Cross - he was the fireman on that trip. He was friends with the artist who painted the pictures of the steam trains (whose name escapes me).

I love steam trains, used to watch them go past on the Marylebone line at West Ruislip when I was a kid.

Tempted to make a special trip to York to see them. £60 return for me and my lad.

But I think you mean Sir Terence Cuneo, although David Shephard was another artist.

Steam, oh yes. My grandfather was an Inspector on the railways back in the 50's, memories of being on the footplate and some of the best firewood around. Also mega nice Xmas trees courtesy of him being on the west coast line
