Now, back on topic, do we go for good old .22 Hornet, be adventurous with .22-250 or be boring and get a .223?

I've just bought an old Sako L46 in 22 Hornet at a ridiculously low price coz the barrel is knacked - I bet I can get cast boolits going out of it!

If it were me, I'd go for the .223 Remington.

Hornet or 22-250? Have both. At the risk of sounding like a cracked record, my Varmint barrelled Sako 75 22-250 has over 2000 rounds down the barrel, is fire cracked for the first 3" and will still place a 50 grain Vmax within and inch of where I aim at 330 yards with devastating effect. The secret is cleaning which is as minimal as it gets, I do not use any form of copper stripping on it as it sulks for a while. I will keep it going for as long as is humanly possible with the existing barrel.

My Hornet is equally accurate albeit at shorter distances and shoots factory ammunition at just over a fiver for 20 rounds. The two of them combined cost less than an average to cheap 'scope.

We're still pondering this one, oomans. We 'ave plenty of time on our paws as we await Mr Plod to return our stiffycate with a nice selection of new variations. A CZ 527 in .22 Hornet seems favourite, though are inclined to wonder about looking for a nice old rook rifle or even a .410 side by side re-lined to make a nice .22 Hornet double rifle....

I shoot with a guy who uses an old CZ in .22 Hornet, reloads at around 35p a pop and takes rabbits to 200 yrds, you would probably have to mug him to get it off him! thats how good they are !

Also what distance would you choose for convergence?
