It had been described to be as 303 and that's all I know! Any help in identifying it could be interesting!

I'm no expert but I suspect it's a Long Lee Enfield

It looks like it might be a Chassepot.

Do you have the bolt for it?

A model 1866 Chassepot is a French needle fire rifle, so the bolt will look a bit peculiar.

There is a bolt apparently. What sort of value is associated with it? It's not mine it belongs to a friend of a friend.

If you can get a picture of the bolt it will help to identify the rifle.

If it is a Chassepot, then the breech is sealed by a stack of rubber washers around the bolt head. There is also a housing for the needle that projects into the barrel.

If it is not a Chassepot it won't have these features.

I have no idea on the value.

I know what it is - it's a genuine Fugly - Dromia would know more, he bought one just like it when they were new in the shops (still got the original spare baccy tin of needles/rubber seals)

I would agree with Chassepot, it has the correct octagonal receiver they do not seem to attract big money and are often messed around with so to find an original as was example is always good.

Chassepots are Section 58(2) so no need for a slot to get one to hang on the wall while you apply for a variation if you want to shoot it...

Thanks for the info- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3PLWIENSPw this C&Rsnel video also proved useful. I think it may have been a convert to the mdl 74 pattern.

The guy wants rid of it so has asked if I'll take it off his hands. So I should be getting it at the weekend. It had been described as a 303 to me which had been his fathers from the war and been in the attic since the war and off ticket so I'm quite glad for his sake it hasn't turned out as one plus makes things a lot simpler!
