So I've taken the plunge and entered the Practical Pistol comp on the Sunday af the AAW.
Well it saves somebody else coming last
Any tips would be appreciated
I need to practice reloading on the move.. The best at our club reload after 9 shots so they do not need to release the slide, but I struggle to count shots under pressure :-)
You can do a lot of 'dry' practise at home (without any live ammo present!) and it's well worth doing.
i.e.
Drawing from the holster with condition 1, 2 and 3 starts and hands by sides, on head, arms crossed, on table etc.
Mag changes
One-handed shooting (strong and weak hand)
Transferring pistol from strong to weak hand and vice versa
Picking up pistol from table with condition 1, 2 and 3 starts
You may encounter some or all of this stuff at that match.
This will allow you to fine tune the position and adjustment of your belt, holster, mag pouches etc.
It will also help with your muscle memory so you present the gun correctly, with the muzzle always in a safe direction
It will help greatly in getting used to your initial gun presentation on the target so you see the dot or sight picture without having to 'hunt' for it
Put a snap cap in the pistol and then you will be manipulating the safety and pulling the trigger on the 'first shot' each time as well.

Why 9 are they not shooting each target twice?
I shot a USPSA match last year, great fun.
The course of fire is two shots on each target, 18 in total.
Reading through the advise from JSC there seems to be more to this than I first imagined, 3 different start positions?? Single handed !!! Strong and weak handed. Oh Lordy!!!
Time for a bit of dry fire practise running around the house while the family are out me thinks......
