Getting rid of lube in cases

#1 Post by crismaqsood »

Hey guys.

Do you give the cases a wash after resizing them or just clean them with a lint free brass cloth???

It depends on the type of lube and the quantity. I use a lot of lanolin lube, and delube by vibratory tumbling in fine crushed walnut shells in loads of 500. I wouldn't want to wipe down thousands of cases 1 at a time.

Yep, I tumble in walnut after sizing and trimming to get rid of the lube (Imperial sizing wax).

I also put a strip of tumble dryer sheet in with the cases to absorb the lube.. and the cases come out smelling spring fresh..!! lol

I have a rotary wet tumbler... And don't reload loads at once... But good advice 😄

Thank you

I have a wet rotary tumbler too.
I believe some lubes can gum-up pins (if you use them), then you need to clean the pins. Also, a second round of separating and drying is more than I could handle (despite having a pretty efficient process, which I consider only a little more time-consuming than dry tumbling).
Some folks use washing machines or dish washers for cleaning or de-lubing. I would want to be sure that any aggressive detergents are safe for brass (just like I check the MSDS for dry tumbling polishes to ensure they are ammonia-free).

I do have a portable small "washing machine" I got from AliExpress and that looks something like this

I might give it a try for cleaning the lube

That looks like a versatile machine. One advert lists its applications as:

Underwear - socks - children.

Yes, wash in a bucket of hot soapy water, dry in a tray on top of the boiler and tumble again

I once omitted the washing and the media stuck to the lube

That's actually why I bought it. 😉
