I am assuming if the bad people can intercept your emails they can intercept your calls, that's why I put tin foil over my phone 😉

No, becasue GT had none of my personal information, just an email address that does not link to the house.

I was similarly careful when registering with GT - nothing personally identifiable. Then I watched as an RFD entered ALL my details into their GunTrader sales\stock control system when I purchased a rifle. Wasn't impressed... :(

It was my understanding that if you were on their books your location was plotted by your IP address and a 'dot' kindly assigned to you by the hunt sabs who set it up, regardless of what personal information you didn't fill in. It might make you a little more difficult to pin point if you live in a heavily populated area but anyone with half a clue about surveillance, or even just a lot of experience being around people who shoot, could pick you out from others.

My IP address wanders around the country ... differnt sites put me in differnt places and the same time.

UPDATE:

Had the video interview this morning and it is the central system that will NOT allow any encrypted or password protected files to be opened or viewed! Will be taking that up at Commander/ACC level - made the FEO aware that I accept it is not his fault and he is tied and I would be discussing it.

Interview went well, first half was just a general discussion and establishing a good rapport with him. Howver two glitches ... neither of the responses from my referees have been received although my wife's response had. The first one, replied to the request couple of days after receipt and confirmed that to me. The second, even though I understood he had responded, will not be able to provide a second - he unfortunately died four weeks back and I was at his funeral last week. The FEO will deal with that in an "appropriate way".

Hopefully, they will be back in a month or so.

Can I ask about you mentioning responses from referees. I applied for my FAC in early August last year and still waiting to be handed over to FEO for a visit. I spoke to both my referees last year as to whether they had received anything from Firearms licencing, they both advised that they received an email only with some general information, more like an information leaflet, there was nothing to respond to or reply to. With regard to the wife having to provide a response, is this soemthing new - there was no contact details for spouses when I filled in the form last year. Just wondering whether I am missing part of the process.

My referees received an email with questions about their opinion of me about 2 weeks after I applied - mine is a fifth time renewal (or more). The questions for partner/spouse is new and they are general questions again, nothing to difficult and if they are happy with you having firearms/shotguns then they should not be an issue. From teh discussion, it seems to be part of the wrap around checks on individuals.

In Beds/Herts/Cambs - FL send out e-mail to the referees containing a document entitled > Firearms Licence Applications - Guide for Referees <

At a later date the referees are called and asked if they have received the guide so that have 'a heads up' of the topics they should have considered regarding the applicant.
