My knives

If we entered a time of Civil Unrest/Armageddon/Zombie Attacking, what would we do?

My knives

#1 Post by EagerNoSkill »

Hi all
Some advice
I have some stunning custom knives and field axes in the care of friend in South Africa.

Can I bring them over and keeping them at home.
They are mostly camping utility blades

Can I get my friend to post them to me direct?

I've brought many knives in and out of the UK.... but I reckon others on here might offer better advice than just pack them in and claim to be a collector (good reason). They are CAMPING and UTILITY knives are they not, hence good reason...you are a camper..

Technically, they are cutlery and should be labelled as such. You are a collector of cutlery. I never have problems with such a description...

You dont need a good reason to own most large blades, only to carry in public.

There are some types of knife that are ilegal to own or import, main types are autos, balisongs, swords over 50cm with a curved blade, knives with knuckle dusters built in, etc. One problem that importers have been having is with locking folders where the blade can be flipped open using wrist action. Not ilegal to own, but customs have a habit of grabbing them and confiscating them as gravity knives. Best place for info on all things sharp

Salut,

From experience I would not risk posting any knifes from overseas .
I had a very unpleasant experience with HM Customs. They seized a WH German 2WW sword coming from the US claiming it fell under a law that actually had long been superceeded by an one allowing the import of such article . I cut short a long story during which I was threaten with the prospect of financial liabilitty as they claimed legal actions should be brought in . I stick to my position, wrote to MP's and eventually got my sword .

Their actions were unlawfull, against their own regulation book, they used scare bully tactics, dragged it on etc I guess in the hope I'd give up . Despite that I did nothing illegal and was 100% in my rights the table was turned and the HM Customs' action was just short of being plain & simple day light robbery with them writting the rules as it suit them ...
