Case neck scratches

#1 Post by Racalman »

My reloaded .308 Lapua brass has scratches round the neck caused by brass particles attached to the RCBS FLR die.

I note from other forums that this is a common problem.

I inserted a dental cotton roll in to the die soaked in Hoppe's to see if that will dissolve the particles and will inspect it tomorrow.

If it doesn't work does anyone have any other suggestions? I thought about polishing with a dremel but access looks a bit tricky and I'm not sure what attachment to use.

Yep - put a bronze bore cleaning brush in a power drill with a bit of cleaner on it and give it a good scrubbin.

Success! The overnight soaking removed most of the brass particles, then I did as you suggested and scrubbed it using a .223 chamber brush on a T handle.

Here's the result on resized cases, before and after cleaning. I can still see the slightest trace marks on the new case so may have another go at it. FWIW it's a Redding die, not RCBS (I have both).
