Reloading the .44 Rem Mag

#1 Post by Ovenpaa »

Reloading the .44 Mag for a rifle, it is a Rossi with the heavy 24" barrel and 250-300 grain bullets. Any hints or tips on modest loads for such a thing?

for what its worth i run:

240grn RNFP with 4.8grn of Titegroup.

Bearing in mind this is only used for gallery rifle up to 50m.

I have the 16" Rossi in .44 Magum
I use the following as starting loads with 240gr Cast:
N110 18gr
Unique 8 to 10 gr
2400 18gr

Even with a naff shoulder, I can shoot these all day long.

Currently working up a load using N320

Fill the case to 1/10th of an inch more than the base of the bullet when seated with Swiss No 2 (fffg) black powder, seat, compress, roll crimp and away you go. Black powder loaded this way is by far the most accurate load in my underlevers (1860 in 44-40, 1866 in 32-20, 1873 in 38-40).

Something else I need to try as well.

As I do not have any Bullseye I was going to try Viht N310 behind some 240 grain Shellhouse.
