You would struggle a bit 1200 with a 26" barrel .308.

Not 1200 but I took my LMT 16" with GGG 168gr factory ammo out to 1000 and it kept them all on the target and quitea few V and 5 !

No question in my mind - if you want to go to 1200 (either yards or metres) then 6.5 Creedmoor is the better choice. 6.5 Creedmoor Match ammunition has the potential to be accurate father than .308 Win, due to the better ballistic coefficients of the 6.5 mm projectiles. 6.5 Creedmoor remains supersonic to over 1,000 in most environments, whereas .308 struggles to stay supersonic much past 800. Avoiding that transonic area improves accuracy greatly. There have been lots of shots made out to 1200 with 6.5 Creedmoor, I suspect far more of them than with .308 Win. I recommend Hornady 140 or 147 Grain ELD Match. I have not yet tried the federal Gold Medal Berger Hybrid, but it looks interesting - I have had good luck with Berger bullets in the past.
