8x50r (8mmLebel) load data

#1 Post by CrumpCP »

I currently have few hundred rounds of surplus 1948 french 8x50r however i would like to start loading my own ammo for this, i already load for .303, 6.5x52, 30-06 and 11x52r.
I have acquired ppu brass and PPU .327 200gr bullets for it but i am struggling to find any load data. I intend to use Vn140 powder so was interested in if anyone has experience with this powder and calibre combo. If anyone has any official tested load data sources that would be appreciated.

The ammo is for my 1916 dated Lebel and 1917 dated Bethier long rifle.

Thanks

You should always start with pressure tested data and never ever use forum and internet.

In the event of a lack of data I would contact the powder manufacturers in the first instance. So that should be your first step.

I contacted Vihtavuori recently via their 'Request reloading data' form on their website. i inquired about load data for some calibres not listed on their website.

This was their response: 'Due to safety and product liability reason we can only give recommendations for components and calibers that we have actually tested with a pressure gun in our ballistic test center. For the mentioned calibers we have no data. Very sorry for that.'

Perhaps Hornady data might be the best port of call to get you in the right ballpark, from which you can develop some conservative start loads.

The lack of data is from the sources i have to hand mainly the LEE reloading handbook and the small amount of data that came with the LEE dies which is almost exclusively American powders.
I was trying to see if anyone had any sources of 8x50r load data that is officially published in other handbooks etc from which i can use as a basis to work from starting below and working up loads from there.

Vihtavuori themselves wouldn't give any data as they have not worked up loads and tested them themselves.

no manuals I have show any data - lyman, vhit, alliant, etc

you need to find who makes bullets for it, then look at their load data.
