My biggest concern regarding the mod was how to arrive at a neat solution to retaining the cylinder pin. I've been thinking along the lines of chopping down the ram rod and securing in the same manner as standard. Or deleting it and retaining the cylinder pin by drilling and tapping a screw hole in the frame and holding it in place with a screw. It's not something you want to get wrong.

And then I discovered THIS little mod. Loving this idea a LOT. No fannying about with drilling and tapping, deletes the ram rod BUT allows for easy removal of the cylinder pin and thereby speedy reloading of the cylinder. A simple swap out!

To remove the cylinder pin you just tug the spring loaded retainer down.

on my 1860 my plan was to shorten it, but since seeing some mason type cartridge mods, I've seen some nice infill pieces, but it's a lot of faff. so I will probably just shorten it to match my other one.
on one of my 73's, the previous owner had lost the ejector rod, and rather than wait ages for new parts, I just had the screw hole welded up and blued, really changed the look of the gun. not to everyones taste though.
I'm just about to dive into these vids now, I was just going by the finished articles thmbnail, so I'm interested to see what they do to it.
as to the rem, my uberti stainless version I had, there was no fear of the cylinder pin removing itself, I could barely get it out when it was oiled!

Was the cylinder pin on the Remington slightly bent or straight and just really tight?

I've got my girlfriend to order one of these cylinder pin sprung retainers. It should arrive here in a few weeks. I'll plan the modding around that when it's in situ. I'm now looking for foresight alternatives. I will most likely make one out of brass but I'm keeping an eye out for alternatives to silver solder in place.
I'm trying to avoid anything that requires drilling and tapping stainless - you know, stuff that could go wrong and then require the services of a gunsmith to put right. :)

if you can silver solder, why not just make your own front sight blade and base?
how much was that latch? that looks good, I might be interested if you could have got 2. I still also need to source another paloverde lever wrap for my rifles.

They may well ship to the UK. Might be an idea to wait until mine arrives - check it out for fit and looks.
I've ordered a brass 21mm 2mm thick disc - a few quid on ebay to fashion into a front sight similar to the Colt Single Action Army. But I'm still keeping an eye out for possible ramp sights that would look good on a snubby.

I think I have something in the armoury that could be a candidate, reading this makes me think it could be time to do another :)

They are always cheap! I have seen them go for as little as GBP70.00 for a reasonable example.

BTW, they look lovely finished in plum brown!

With a bit of hacksaw-ery this may just become my new for foresight. My Pietta is a stainless model.

I have a brass disc arriving soon too - quite like the idea of it counter-balancing the brass trigger guard. I like to gather bits and offer them up to see which suits.

cpg have a brass frame one, that might be fun to do
