Which FAC pump action?

#1 Post by Geek »

My FAC has been renewed and I have a slot for a pump action shotgun (I already have a 10+1 semi [not a proper purpose built PSG shotgun but OK for me]).

I have been practicing on the 50m range with slug, but have decided that I would like to try target shotgun and therefore I want something with ghost ring sights and the option for a scope if required.

Therefore, my learned friends what would you recommend? I do quite like the look of a Mossberg 590A1 / something like this https://www.full-bore.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=30927, would like 9+1 or even 10+1 if possible.

Happy to purchase shotguns secondhand.

Add pictures (if possible) of any recommendations. ttiuwp :)

Geek, I think Malmos up near Lancaster still have some reasonably priced 590s in stock. Could be worth a short trip up the M6 to have a look and feel. I'd have bought both the supernova and the Mossberg if the missus wasn't with me at the time!

The 590 Slugster would be a good starting place and I am already a fan of the 500 as the Viking as I have owned a few between us along the way. I have just applied for a S1 Shotgun for Vermin as it is renewal time and my FEO just said fine and moved to the next item which makes me wish I had asked for slug as well.

CZ HC-P pumper, comes with ghost rings and mine is seriously accurate....At end of day it's all academic if it's not a good fit for you. Mossbergs don't suit my wee arms, neither does Benelli unfortunately - had my heart set on one...

Hatsans and CZ for me it is... :good: :good:

10 million Remington 870s made..... they work.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I have a Mossberg A500 clect choke which was a 7 shot before the hungerford event and then restricted to 3 shots. In the 38 years that I have owned it the shotgun has been cleaned twice, my go to shotgun just so reliable

I thoroughly enjoyed my Winchester 12 gauge 1200 (bought around 1985) and it was very competent on the Dunmore clay pigeon electric trap course in Drayton (sadly gone). It's a classic design and will last forever - cheap as chips s/h for around £250.

My 870 cost £250 and with a Vortex red dot on I've cleaned T&P1 with it, so you don't need to spend a lot of money.

I wouldn't recommend a ghost ring sight as although it is possible to do well with them, they're not usually precise enough for TS.

You also don't really need a long mag if you're going to use it for TS, as the most you'll load is 6 or 7.
