Was fortunate to see one in June last year near to us. It was regularly out at about 6PM hunting. I suspect the blood under the wing was from a kill, not the owl itself. Hope to get back there again and see it again this year.

Excellent pictures, which camera did you use?

Thanks. It's a Canon Eod 5dsr, with a 100-400mm zoom (at 400mm for these), Christel.

Great pictures. They are quite common around here at this time of year (Lincolnshire Wolds) Once you understand their patterns you can get incredibly close to them as well. Just sit quietly along a hedgerow and when you see one wait as they tend to circuit the fields before moving on.

Thanks David, and I just realised I didn't spot the spelling mistake on the camera. It should be an Eos 5dsr.

We're pretty certain Spot was a dog, not a barn owl...

Awesome pictures ! Why did we see that snub nose and think "Beaufighter?"

Bristol Beaufighter Mk1f R2192 when operating with No. 252 Squadron Coastal Command. The Squadron operated anti German fighter aircraft patrols in the Bay of Biscay protecting allied anti-submarine aircraft fighting the U-boat war.
