OK thanks and understood. So is it safe to assume there's no discernible difference between the different flight controller software packages like CleanFlight, BetaFlight, and LibrePilot? I appreciate people have their favourites, but it seems to me they all pretty much do the same thing i.e. flash and configure the flight controller. Also the latest firmware presumably comes from whoever makes the flight controller board. Is that right?

I looked at a few however I ended up with OpenPilot which died a death so on with LibrePilot however I doubt there is much difference between the current offerings.

We've made some progress... We now have 2 Vortex 250 Pros, one's mine and one's my sons. He insisted on black, because it looks stealth...



I've hooked up my FatShark HD3's with a FuriousFPV True-D diversity receiver to both drones and mounted a Hero4Session to mine.





We both had our first proper flight last weekend and it was a blast. My 11 year old son who's spent 1 hour trying to hover a small RC helicopter and 1 hour in an FPV drone simulator and that's it, he flew his drone perfectly. 2 hours that's all it took him to master flying a racing drone. I'm amazed... As he said it's just like a computer game...

Flying FPV from within the drone is amazing, you're up there with the birds. Put off re-barrelling one of your rifles and buy yourself some goggles. 10/10 in my book. Wherever we go now we'll take the drones and take a birds eye look at the world. I can't wait to get out again.

one of the guys at work flies a drone, he was saying in this country it is illegal to fly from pure FPV? he had to buy glasses that produce a HUD type interface, so he can see the drone but also see the camera view

I just looked up the actual law and it says -

"94 (3) The person in charge of a small unmanned aircraft must maintain direct, unaided visual contact with the aircraft sufficient to monitor its flight path in relation to other aircraft, persons, vehicles, vessels and structures for the purpose of avoiding collisions."

Which confirms his point if taken literally, however everyone seems to have interpreted it as -

"You will also need to fly the aircraft "within sight". This means you can’t go above 400 feet in altitude or further than 500 metres horizontally. If you want to exceed that, you need to seek explicit permission from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)."

There's plenty of people flying FPV in this country, if it was a problem everyone in the community would know about it.

The ultimate urban exploration accessory and he can certainly fly it. Very good.
