It is a military youth camp.......besides who doesn't like to learn how to throw a knife correctly?, good to have something for when the bullets run out! :p

As a side note all Russian Spetsnaz operatives are taught how to throw an entrenching tool, a skill that has prevailed since WWII........

Nothing new to the average Infantryman. Spend two hours digging a fire trench then get told by some Rupert that it's in the wrong position... then watch how far an entrenching tool can get thrown.

I think I'm with 24772433... yes, we've all played with throwing knives, but its fine at a static target at a fixed distance so you can time the spinning blade to land point first... but at a target thats probably moving, and an unknown distance..??

Apart from that, I was told never attempt to throw your knife.... you have little chance of it working, and you've just thrown away your only weapon..!!
