6) Always send apprentices for "long weights", buckets of steam, tartan paint and the special quadrilles used for drilling round square ovals.

Up here they would give young new starts a folded up piece of paper with the instructions to give it to the, Keeper/shepherd/joiner/ploughman etc etc.

On it was written:

"Dinnae laugh and dinnae smile.
Send the fool anither mile."

It was amazing how far some of them would go before they though about reading what was on it.
