A lot more than the useless tw@ of a gun rack next to the driver I hope! FFS, did he not think to call the police, HQ or any units that could support them?! If this was a TV show he was definitely in on the heist!

From the linked follow up article.......

“In South Africa you don’t say ‘call the police’ you say ‘call Robbie, call Josh’ cos you know them guys gonna do more to help you than the police.”

I showed the video to a South African guy I work with and he said that the police are more often than not useless in situations like this as they apparently hang back until it’s all over rather than risk their own lives as the gangs are often very heavily armed with automatic weapons and explosives and corrupt police officers have been known to be involved with the gangs at some level. The guy driving is ex-special forces so Robbie and Josh could well be ex-special forces as well.

Interesting article on the problem.......

He did well, superb driving, a pity he didn't get a chance to shoot back.

My time as a reservist police constable in JHB in '99-'01 was what inspired me to GTFO.
Corruption is everywhere in the SA police, at every level.
How can the country improve if everybody is on the bloody take?

A colleague had a S African friend and he related a story to me.

One day, he was car-jacked by three knife wielding thugs, he let them have the car, wallet, phone &c but asked if he could have his smelly gym bag. They threw it at him, complete with damp towel.

Big mistake - he had a loaded 9mm pistol in the bag and promptly took out all three of them. When the police arrived it was a case of "well that's three less for us to deal with"!
