Filtering the Active/New Topics views...

#1 Post by rox »

If you use the 'Active Topics'/'New Topics' views, but find them frequently clogged with irrelevant posts (such as the daily dumps of regurgitated jokes), you can filter them by forum with the following link format.

For example, the links below include all forums except 'jokes'. Add or remove the relevant forum IDs according to what pi**es you off!

Active Topics - 'Joke' Free (Link)

Code: Select all

https://www.full-bore.co.uk/search.php?search_id=active_topics&fid[]=77&fid[]=3&fid[]=19&fid[]=38&fid[]=63&fid[]=56&fid[]=36&fid[]=54&fid[]=13&fid[]=64&fid[]=50&fid[]=109&fid[]=17&fid[]=30&fid[]=42&fid[]=60&fid[]=89
Unread Posts - 'Joke' Free (Link)

Code: Select all

https://www.full-bore.co.uk/search.php?search_id=unreadposts&fid[]=77&fid[]=3&fid[]=19&fid[]=38&fid[]=63&fid[]=56&fid[]=36&fid[]=54&fid[]=13&fid[]=64&fid[]=50&fid[]=109&fid[]=17&fid[]=30&fid[]=42&fid[]=60&fid[]=89
New Posts - 'Joke' Free (Link)

Code: Select all

https://www.full-bore.co.uk/search.php?search_id=newposts&fid[]=77&fid[]=3&fid[]=19&fid[]=38&fid[]=63&fid[]=56&fid[]=36&fid[]=54&fid[]=13&fid[]=64&fid[]=50&fid[]=109&fid[]=17&fid[]=30&fid[]=42&fid[]=60&fid[]=89
Unanswered Posts - 'Joke' Free (Link)

Code: Select all

https://www.full-bore.co.uk/search.php?search_id=unanswered&fid[]=77&fid[]=3&fid[]=19&fid[]=38&fid[]=63&fid[]=56&fid[]=36&fid[]=54&fid[]=13&fid[]=64&fid[]=50&fid[]=109&fid[]=17&fid[]=30&fid[]=42&fid[]=60&fid[]=89

Left: Default 'Active Topics' view, including all forums ('Jokes' highlighted)

Right: Filtered 'Active Topics' view - 'Joke' Free. Relief at last!

Note: The links above are tested with top-level forums. See the 'sc' parameter for more granularity when filtering specific sub-forums.

Taking this a step further, you can make the filtering seamless by using a browser extension, such as Redirector for Firefox. With this you can still click the links in the forum (e.g. 'Active Topics') and you'll get the filtered versions.

Here's an example of the config for Redirector for Firefox:

Thank you for that. I was getting a little tired of all the jokes.

Why go to all that trouble when you can just ignore any title marked "jokes" as you scroll down :good:

Why bother having the spam filtered from your inbox?

Because I have to do an awful lot of scrolling down before I come to anything shooting related. Which is why I visit this forum.

Do you mean take away access from just jokes or the whole forum? If it’s just jokes then yes please for me.
