I've got what i think is a .50 drill round (collected lots of this stuff as a kid)

I agree wholeheartedly with "Badger" --- using ammunition terminology the HEAD of the cartridge (NOT the "bullet" please) is where you normally find the HEADSTAMP.

As for those shops / people who talk about "bullet heads" ------------GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
