I'm sure this has been asked and answered many times but is 7.5 x 55 an obsolete caliber? There seem to be rifles chambered as such that are sold as obsolete hence not FAC usually Schmidt Rubin. I'm confused. Can the ammo be bought?

Yes, GP11 pops up now and again, and there was some Prvi around as well not long ago. Doubt you'd swing it as an obsolete calibre, plenty of people still selling K31s as working rifles.
Careful now/that sort of thing

7.5x55 is section 1 and definitely not an obsolete calibre, as it is still manufactured and available commercially.

The mod 1889 Schmidt-Rubin however, chambered for the obsolete 7.5x53.5 round are Section 58(2) and therefore classed as obsolete calibre.

There is a list of obsolete calibres in the HO Guidance.
Arming the Country, one gun at a time.

Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.

I have a 7,5x55 and 7,5x53,5 sitting side by side in the Armoury, ammunition is interchangeable in that it will fit in both yet one is deemed to be an obsolete calibre. Both can be shot and ammunition for both comes from the same dies albeit different projectiles.

When the bolt was redesigned---rear to front locking--- a more powerful round was introduced. The case length was increased, supposedly to prevent the new ammo from being used in the old rifle.
