Remington Roling Block

#1 Post by dodgyrog »

As a dealer I occasionally get a surprise at what comes into the armoury. Yesterday I was asked to dispose (anonymously) of some de-acts that had belonged to an old shooting acquaintance.
I found the whole thing quite sad as there were 2 S&W revolvers and 1 Beretta 92F deactivated (you could say ruined!!!). These had previously been the shooters personal firearms which he had deactivated when the legislation banning our ownership of handguns came in!
Anyway, in the lot was a 45/70 Rolling Block (presumably a repro) that was fully operational.
I spoke to Firearms Licensing and arranged to take the de-acts into the local Police Station for disposal (the de-acts were not to the latest standard) and said I would put the 45/70 onto my dealer register.
Anybody out there with knowledge of the rolling block original and repros please let me know all about them including loads that can be used in them.

I would suggest posting a picture of the other side & any markings.

Hello
From the picture and the serial number font. I would stake my money on it being a
Swedish Carbine M/1864-1868 in 12.17x44. You say that yours is 45/70 are you positive.
I have attached a picture of an original for you to compare but they look the same to me.
If Original cal its classed as an obsolete cal and can be held off ticket sec58
