Calling all P14 owners

#1 Post by Ovenpaa »

Just a bit of an informal poll, how many forum members are shooting a P14?

Yes i have a Remington made example with a tuned trigger and a Parker Hale 5B sights.
P-14s are very nice rifles even though they are essentially a anglicised Mauser.

I also shoot one, I tend to shoot mine with a Bridles trigger these days and I even have a spare if it should ever fail and I dins the general accuracy of the rifle superb. Even with the original trigger it was at least as accurate as my 4(T) and is probably the most accurate .303 I own with N140 or RS50 and 174 grain bullets.

So accuracy wise, what do people think and what are they shooting, factory or home loads.

We have three: two that had been converted to heavy barrel target rifles in 7.62x51 / .308 in the 1960s (you fitted a Picatinny rail to one of them for us a few years ago), and one in almost pristine, original condition in .303". That is pretty accurate with Privi .303" so we haven't bothered working up a full power load for it. We shoot it most of the time with reduced power loads at 300 mards using H&N bullets (https://www.hn-sport.de/en/reloading/rn-312-180-gr-hs ) and a pinch of Alliant 2400 or RS30 powder.

Just watched a clip of Russian "militia" supposedly being armed in the Kiev pocket in 1941 with either P14s or M17s and they look much happier than those getting the Mosins.

I don't have one yet, but I would like one. I have seen a Weedon refurb for sale recently on a dealer website, not too distant from me, though I better not name it. I would prefer one with the original volley sights but would settle for a refurb at a push. I will have to make an effort to fill my .303 vacancy. I am not getting any younger.
Regards
Peter.
