The picure was taken after the wood was brought back to life, but before the metalwork was restored. I rust blued the barrel, which has Henry rifling in good condition. The receiver and lock plate were originally colour case hardened and were lightly rusted. Old case hardening fades to a finish that can be mistaken for nickel plate and so I polished them with very pleasing results. The trigger guard, and screws were heat blued.
With help from somebody on this forum, I got some 9.3 x 72R cases from E Bay. A split sleeve was turned up to shorten them to the correct length. I already had a 375 SWC mould in the odds and sods box and an unidentified die was modified to make a seater. I never resize cases for single shot rifles and so this is all I should ever need, if the cases come out after firing looking like they did when they went in.
