Pistol Shooting Class / 30.09 + 01.10

#11 Post by froggy »

Ahooj Soudruhuzi,

Back from our NTTC Pistol Class in the CR with a member of my club and Nelly from FB. Both were using Glock 17 while, of course, I stayed stay true & loyal to my P01 Omega. Needless to mention that the Cz performed faultlessly over 2 days and 1'000 rounds ;)

The syllabus encompassed all the basic : Safety, fundamentals of pistol shooting, speed & tac-reloads, dealing with malfunctions, but also more advanced techniques of defensive/dynamic shooting such as positions, shooting from covers, classic shooting & moving, moving & shooting, etc...etc... Thanks to the small numbers, the pace was fast and we even managed to touch on group/team shooting & perform the basic of a simple back tube.

Each stage of the learning is "sanctioned" by little "exams" to make sure the techniques are assimilated such as facing 3 pistols prepared with various malfunctions that we have to clear asap before double tapping the "bad guy" - Both educational & fun stuff

All of that still left us a bit of "after class ludic time" to shoot the steel plates

and as usual try different guns, this time some of the ones I rencently bought & keep stored there .

Russian 1973 made Makarov, 1989 Cz82 and a Vz.61

So finally the period of lusting over them was over and I could at least shoot them. Well , sort of ... cos someone had taken a shine to the Mak !!! And here is the culpit ... ;)

Our "Gun Culture" is milles away from what is taught in UK civi clubs and I fully understand it can be quite a shock & intimidating at 1st.
So a big thank you Nelly for boarding that plane & joining us with such an open-mind .
I trust you had as much fun as I had :good:

That Makarov is tiny or somebody had big paws

It would be best described as semi-compact - from the side by side pic it marginaly shorter than the Cz82 , maybe 1 cm max . Probably around 2 cm shorter than my Cz75 P01, which is in the same categorie as a glock19.

Different angle, different paws O:-)

I must say I really like that Makarov. It handles very very well and would be very easy to conceal thanks to being "single stack slim". From the little I shot it, the obvious down side is the limited 8 rounds mag capacity and the old fashion butt mag release. Except that it is very accurate and costs a fraction of my "UK Compliant" GSG LBP :squirrel:

I think I'd find that a bit small to hold comfortably, I don't have particularly large paws, but the Glock 19 seems to fit my hand nicely. Although my K22 is not bad either, the long barrel and extension don't really make that well balanced.

Lovely writeup Froggy.

Unfortunate that I was at a friends wedding in Cyprus and could not make it along.

Hopefully there will be a few next year.

Great photos, too. Drop me a PM.

It was a pleasure being back in CR with you and I am glad you enjoyed it as much as I did :good:
I'll try to do a range report later when I have a tad more time .
NB - I think you took that pic - many thanks ;)
Oui mon ami, a weekend I'll not forget. Great shooting and top class banter. I fell love with the Mak and it's nicer to shoot than my CO2 version, can't think why shakeshout.

Got to be careful with that "Leatham/Jarret/Enos" (or whoever is claiming credit this week!) Sport Grip, Yves. Your thumbs will slow the slide and induce stoppages...
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!
