County Durham newbie

#1 Post by MetalMagus »

Hello,
My name is Sean. I live in County Durham. I came across the forum while looking for information on local shooting ranges and clubs. I am looking to join one and serve out my probationary period so I can apply for a FAC.

Target shooting and becoming a better shot is my initial aim. Learning correct technique, etc. Longer term I would like to try long range shooting and reloading of my own ammo.

I have gained quite a lot of information just by browsing the forum as a guest, but still have a load of questions. Hoping the collective wisdom of the forum can help point me in the right direction and help with narrowing down the best options firearms wise for someone new to the sport.

Thanks Sean.

Hi Sean, welcome to the forum. I shoot with a club at Stanley but as far as I am aware, membership is closed at present. More than likely any club you start off in will have .22 rimfires and .38 lever actions as club guns for you to use. Once you are a full member and have hopefully experienced full bore shooting outdoors at different ranges you will have some idea of what interests you and what disciplines you are most interested in.

Thanks for the warm welcome lads. Much appreciated.

If anyone is aware of any of the clubs in the NE currently accepting new members can you let me know. Seems a lot of them are full. Maybe I can get my name onto a waiting list.

Cheers

Welcome Sean

You could try http://www.mayfairshootingcentre.co.uk/ based in Sunderland.
No waiting list that I am aware of - has .22 Rimfire, .38 and .44 Lever action club guns, also affiliated with Tyne Valley Rifle Club http://tynevalleyrifleclub.co.uk/page10.html which use the Ponteland MOD ranges.
