NRA std medals.

#1 Post by breacher »

At The Phoenix this year I managed no 1st, 2nd or 3rd but did get 2 gold std, 2 silver std and 1 bronze std. Thats not enough to accumulate enough points for a Grandmaster medal.

Now the confusing bit - I have a stack of what I would call SMALL medals and a stack of BIG medals. I always assumed the big ones were 1st 2nd or 3rd place medals and the small ones were std medals.

But this year I have been given no medals as the stds are "just a way to get points rather than actual medals" according to NRA.

So - I am left wondering what my stack of smaller medals over the years were for !

Did you buy them on eBay?

Can't believe they were for achievement, Brian

Sorry, the NRA might be able to search records, do they have dates on?
Arming the Country, one gun at a time.

Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.

Been a bit of a plum.

I really did not know what I was winning and placing in ! After a bit of records research, I figured it out.

They are all for 1st 2nd or 3rd - I just placed more than I thought !

If they're 1st-3rd place medals they'll be engraved with the event name on the back.

The medals have changed in size over the years and the Phoenix ones are a different size to the other ones, so maybe that's also causing some confusion?

I've accumulated a few medals over the years and at some point might get a frame done with the right sized holes cut to take all the different medal sizes. I mocked one up a while back but haven't done anything about it yet, but this might give you a clue as to which medals you've got there:

I have a load of old Scottish Pistol association badges for PP1 and Service pistol B and some Std medals. They are pinned on a cork board. I put them on view near my gun cabinets when the police are due to visit along with a small towel with all my Meeting badges on it. A few years ago I had a PC and new WPC come to visit. She started to give me a bit of a hard time about 'Competition' at which point the PC pointed at the display and said 'I don't think we can argue with this gentleman on that subject'. The Trafalgar badges certainly helped with my 'Need' for 3 x .303 rifles. in a force area that said it did not allow more than one rifle in each calibre .

i always thought an STD was more of a trophy...

so in this shooting respect, what does STD stand for?
