Commonwealth Games 2022

#1 Post by Racalman »

Bisley was deemed to be too far from Birmingham to hold the shooting and archery events, so now they will be held in India ...

Bisley is too far?
Well the cycling will be held at the Lee Valley velodrome in Stratford, that's approximately 150 miles by road from B'Ham, whereas Bisley is only about 130 miles.

As a Birmingham resident I would just like to say that the reason shooting was not allowed is because BCC are a bunch of woke, revisionist, nasty, malicious left wing socialists who couldn't organise their legal responsibilities let alone anything complex.

Birmingham 2022 chief executive Ian Reid wrote: the proposed location for shooting, at Bisley in Surrey, "offered little or no benefit to the West Midlands".

Can you both be telling the truth?

They could - the two (three?) quotes are not mutually exclusive. Of course, Bisley as a venue offers no local benefit 130 miles away (unless one stretches the meaning of "local" to that value), but purpose built or redeveloped facilities in the WM area would, assuming one believes that improving target shooting facilities offers a benefit. Whose decision was it to "choose" Bisley as the proposed venue for the purpose of making a decision as to the inclusion of the shooting sports (rather than to choose Bisley as an economical solution having decided to host shooting in the first place)?

Either the reason for cancelling the shooting was that BCC are a bunch of woke, revisionist, nasty, malicious left wing socialists, or that having it at Bisley was unacceptable because it offered little or no benefit to the WM. Hard to see how both reasons could be true.

It's even harder to see how if the second reason is true, why the cycling was allowed to go ahead even further away, and why the shooting has now been allowed to go ahead 4000-5000 miles away.

Anyway - I've emailed the chief exec of the CGF to see if he can explain the apparent contradictions in their statements and what they've done. I'll let you know what they say.
