Ordering from the US

#1 Post by Blackstuff »

Has anyone managed to order anything from the US without getting the $200 minimum order warning? (As in you have to order at least $200 of stuff for them to even consider sending the thing to you)

Hopefully this can be resolved in the fullness of time but its a PITA until it is!

I was just after a couple of mounts and i've ended up having to get them from New Zealand!! Nice carbon footprint on those bad boys! :squirrel:

I think it depends who you are buying from. The only problem I have had is the time it takes to get stuff once customs get there hands on it and the extra charges levied by the UK customs.

Hello
You are lucky if you can get anything from the USA, virtually all sellers refuse to send to the UK and when they do postage charges are high, and then UK customs grabs them and parcel force charge you for handling, and then added delays

I just emailed Titan reloading who distribute Lee gear as they have what I want and have used them before.
At checkout I could put in my address but had no shipping option come up.
They have suspended all international shipping due to covid as they still have items in transit from several months ago!

Been a while since I ordered anything from us, sounds like a horror story after reading the above posts.

I used to order from the US a lot before, but now the UK suppliers are doing a good job of stocking items.

I ordered a boyds stock last year. It more or less doubled the cost by the time it got to me but it arrived ok.

I've had Area 419 stuff and 21st Century and stuff from Dram Worx. All in the last 2 months. All ordered and arrived within 5 days or so. Usually FedEx or UPS. DId pay their Int Express shipping fee though. No customer issues either.

I had to return something - Area 419 - was brilliant and couldn't fault.

I've just ordered a 20MOA scope base from the US via E*ay.com...

It SHOULD be here in the next 4 weeks... we'll see..

The killer was the shipping...$40 for the base, $67 for shipping, and $20 for taxes (including VAT and customs hopefully!!) for a total of $127 for a $40 scope base..

(I tried ordering from Optics EU but after waiting 8 weeks when they said it would be 6 weeks, then being told it would be another 4 weeks I cancelled and got a refund)

Stackry is quite a useful company under the right circumstances. They will forward any US mail and packages abroad for you, storing it for a while if necessary. I have used them for several items difficult to source in the UK and am pleased with the outcome.
