Ammunition Listing on FAC

#1 Post by dave_303 »

For the second or third time now I've requested my FLD to have ammo slots on my FAC for 7.62x54 (have 2 Mosins) and 7.62/.308 (as I know I wish to get a couple of 7.62 NATO rifles). each time it has returned each time with just 600 rounds of 7.62.

I find this particularly odd as I have my 2 7.5mm rifles listed seperately (7.5x54 and 7.5x55)

Do I actually need the chambering to be limmited?
As a question to the RFDs if you saw a FAC like this would you be willing to sell ammo with just an authority for '7.62' rather than 7.62x54?

if you only had a ammo listing for 7.62, but show a 7.62x54r rifle on ticket, I can't imagine an RFD arguing the point. If you were asking for nato ammo, with the 54r rifle the only 7.62 rifle on ticket, then I would expect issues.

On my ticket, I have 700 38/357, when I got my 38 S&W added to my licence, I requested 700 rnds of 38 S&W for the new pistol, but then added a note, saying if the S&W ammo came under the umbrella of 38/357, could I have that limit upped instead. they did just give me a 38 S&W slot, but I think it may have got them to see the point.

so maybe you should be asking to have your generic 7.62 ammo amount doubled, instead of having an extra ammo slot?

No need to narrow it down to the chambering, just up your holding of 7.62, I think I have 1500 to cover 7.62x25 7.62x38 7.62x39 7.62x51 7.62x54 and no RFD has ever had a problem selling ammo to me.

Slightly different perhaps but my first ticket came back with 7.62 ammunition only. I soon realised that it's quite hard to come by where as .308 is readily available. I questioned a friendly RFD who said he wouldn't sell me .308 but some RFD's might. I just sent my ticket back in with a nice covering letter and they changed it to 7.62/.308 with no dramas.
I don't have the specific chambering against any of my allocation.

i had them worrying when i asked for 7.5x55, so they asked the RFD if just 7.5 was ok.

the only thing I have on my ticket with chamberings on is 38 S&W, 12 bore slug and 30m1. everything else is just a size ie, 44, 303, 9mm etc

Bloody pain in the arse this is.

Different forces add their own interpretations, I think I am right in saying (as per Dans post) that the HO guidance is along license by calibre and not chambering.

When I originally applied for my Dolphin I was given 7.62x51 only, as they stated that .308win was a deer round only.....The argument was short, succinct, and I won....which was a shame as it was pointless.

I then ended up with 500 x .308 and 500 x 7.62x51..... kukkuk I know you can split hairs all day on this but its pointless.

So the next time round when I got the AR I played them at their own game and asked for 1000 .223 Rem and 1000 5.56x45mm.

So as far as I am concerned, if I load it with a match bullet its .223 rem, and if its millsurp its 5.56x45mm. I dont have room for 2000 rounds of 5.56, but the 700 rounds of Blackhills M262 in NATO packaging is deffo 5.56x45MM as it says so on the box....happy days :D

Maggot, I think the intention was to have chambering on the FAC but plod designed the forms and put calibre in their infinite wisdom. I heard the conversation went something like, "We want to design the forms as we are the ones that will be administering it." Nice story but true, I don't know.

Now the trend and advise is to restrict it back to chambering where possible to remove the wider connotations of calibre or bore size. They don't like (as I had and my father still has) ".30cal rifle" listed and would like it narrowed down to (possibly) 7.62NATO/308WIN and not as we have had in the past in the same slot .308Win, 30-30Win, and 300Whisper. But there is allowance for metric/imperial designations to cartridges like .308/7.62 and 5.56/.223 or common chamberings .38/.357, etc.

Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.
