Silverstone Shooting Centre - Grand Opening Sept 9th-10th

#1 Post by Thorney »

Well, after 2 years in planning and nearly 3 years to build we are going to open in September.

A lot of members here have been kind enough to share their thoughts (and wants!) and I hope that what we have done will match your high expectations.

The open day is designed to be an open doors type deal, no shooting to take place but free access for everyone to inspect the ranges, the target systems, see them in operation etc and of course we will be offering some opening day deals for membership. There will also be a trade fair there with (thus far) 30 traders attending so enough to look and buy as well as the range to nosy about on.

In summary we have two 100m ranges and three 50m ranges with a total of 30 shooting lanes. All the targets are camera controlled so shooters can see fall of shot. There are turning targets at 10m, 25m, 50m and 100m and a 30m long running boar target (the longest in the UK we are told - might be wrong).

We can shoot up to .308 but are limited on noise so its likely that shotgun will be limited to practical competitions and full bore to run supressed - however we wont know until final testing. We will also welcome air gunners, cross bow shooters, archery and even axe throwing - we are inclusive in nature. There will be an HO club but members wont be forced to join it - we want to welcome all existing clubs over and above some desire to create another one.

The range will be open to FAC holders on a club or pay and play basis and we will be offering both direct access shooting for non FAC owners to attain their licence and corporate events for non FAC holders to experience the great sport of shooting.

We still have a fair bit to do but everything is on schedule for the opening but if you're interested in some pictures etc we have a Facebook page that shows the build in progress:

Link to the open day event is here:

Be great to meet some members from here.
