There's a big difference between determined individuals who will do their own research, and those fence sitters who have thought about it but can't be bothered to do their own research/need 'inspriation', once such inspriation is presented it motivates them to act. Further, there may be a specific blank/replica/antique gun involved and it gives pointers as to what is easy to re-manufacture.

Is that one with no access to the workshop Sim?Sim G wrote:GeeRam wrote:This situation has caused some waves in the classic car world, and vintage racing scene as the owner of MKF Engineering, and one of the 3 arrested, has been involved in reproducing many now very hard to find vintage gearbox parts for Ford 3 rail gearboxes, such as used in the Lotus-Cortina, Lotus Elan, RS Escorts etc., as well as making new magnesium castings for bellhousings, casings etc., and all the parts to recreate the rare Hewland 5-speed version of the Ford Type 3 box.
He was also involved in supply the parts to Caterham for the 6 speed gearbox they use in the Seven from what I've seen.
In the 90's he was one half a well respected firm Flowtech Racing, specialising in cylinder head work.
He's worked for VW in South Africa and Germany in the auto industry prior to that and has worked in the automotive world for over 40 years having served his Engineering apprenticeship in the Royal Navy in the early 70's.
And if proven, will hopefully spend the rest of his life in a closed conditions prison.

To be honest that is a rather tenuous reason not to show, if someone is in the mind to make a gun then they are going to seek out the information.Blackstuff wrote:There's a big difference between determined individuals who will do their own research, and those fence sitters who have thought about it but can't be bothered to do their own research/need 'inspriation', once such inspriation is presented it motivates them to act. The ammunition appears to be 9mm, considering the high skill of the people involved and the equipment available in the workshop I am inclined to think this will be some form of Semi-auto pistol rather than a crude pipe gun. The main barrier to making those is the magazine, so it will probably be a variant of something where magazines can be sourced. I wouldn't be surprised if it is a knock off of one of the 9mm TT-33 variants like the Zastava M70A or Hungarian Pisztoly 48.M. The TT-33 used to be a popular pistol amongst UK Crims who erroneously called it a Browning.

If found quilty, I doubt he'll/they'll get life....7-10 years would be my guess.Sim G wrote:GeeRam wrote:This situation has caused some waves in the classic car world, and vintage racing scene as the owner of MKF Engineering, and one of the 3 arrested, has been involved in reproducing many now very hard to find vintage gearbox parts for Ford 3 rail gearboxes, such as used in the Lotus-Cortina, Lotus Elan, RS Escorts etc., as well as making new magnesium castings for bellhousings, casings etc., and all the parts to recreate the rare Hewland 5-speed version of the Ford Type 3 box.

Mind you at 68 yrs old, that could well mean rest of his life.
Of course if they can tie in anything he made to use in a murder or attempted murder, that could be a different story.

YES! I had the same nagging recollection - they sponsored me some specially made bits for my competition kit car. They made a really nice short shift gear change mechanism and a neat bell housing adaptor to graft my gearbox onto a Broadspeed Essex V6 back in the mid 90s.snayperskaya wrote: I thought the name rang a bell......I had of a head for a 2.1 Pinto done by FlowTech years ago, they also shortened the valve stems so I could fit roller rockers. That was a cracking engine running on twin 45 Dellortos, sweet as a nut!.

The old 3.0 Essex, always preferred it to the 2.8 Cologne engine in the 2.8 Injection..A bloke that lived by my mums had a Broadspeed Bullit Capri years ago, had a 3.1 in it if I remember rightDark Skies wrote:YES! Looks like it has been bagged in sets of 8 rounds so probably not anything high capacity or sub machine-y. I suspect altering something existing maybe, as you say the mags are apparently a real pain to make I've heard.

Yep, Essex was a much nicer engine that the Cologne, more torquey, and sounded better.snayperskaya wrote:The old 3.0 Essex, always preferred it to the 2.8 Cologne engine in the 2.8 Injection..A bloke that lived by my mums had a Broadspeed Bullit Capri years ago, had a 3.1 in it if I remember rightDark Skies wrote:YES! Spent many an hour at the wheel of a couple of friends RS3100's back in the 1980's - happy days.
Never owned one though, but did own numerous Escorts though, 3 x RS2000's, a Mexico and a Twin Cam (wish I still owned that given what they are now worth!!!)

Brilliant motor - there was so much you could do with it to release power. A doddle to work on and really strong. I've often thought of putting one in a Land Rover.GeeRam wrote: Yep, Essex was a much nicer engine that the Cologne, more torquey, and sounded better.
