Bell target shooting

#1 Post by Ovenpaa »

I had the chance to try Bell target shooting last night and managed a 25.1 first go which pleased me no end as it proved my eyes still work (ish) So I am hooked now! Anyone else shooting Bell target?

Been shooting Bell Target for years both at home and at the club where we have occasional Bell Target days, my 1903 Lincoln Jefferies will ring that bell all day when I do my bit. It was one of the most populist shooting activities ever mainly down the Midlands in the black country. The teams used to compete in public houses for mutton dinners and the league results were eagerly followed by the communities in the local papers, a bit like the "pinks" you used to get with the football results. The late Frank Spittle used to have a Bell target Museum in Wolverhampton that was excellent but now long gone. His book on the subject "Ring my Bell" is an inspiring and informative read.

If only people today had the breadth of understanding to engage and support such enjoyable shooting activities as they did in the Bell Target heydays, we have lost much of the benefits of community in this globalised impersonal world we now have.

I've been bringing it back for years however as it isn't a game for brand new BlacktikkaAIpretendytacticalRemSavWinRugetcetc new rifles then this simple analogue shooting pleasure is wasted on most of today's digitalapp fashionista driven, latest gegaw only gun owners.

We have a few Bell target clubs in Lincolnshire and a league, they even demonstrate it at schools and colleges.

There are usually Bell Target displays at the UK Shooting Show rabbles. It doesn't hide itself at all, it is obviously just not of interest to the majority of todays gun owners.

Christ at least in England you don't need an FAC even to play the game.

We have a bell target at the club, and it always gets the competitive juices flowing. Great fun! :good:

Is this with air rifles or .22?
There's a pipe league in Devizes (http://22rifles.system64.net/) that still uses the S11(4) exemption - just don't tell the haters!
Great fun had by all, and in pubs as well.
Arming the Country, one gun at a time.

Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.

Why can't it be shot with a BlacktikkaAIpretendytacticalRemSavWinRuger?
