Shed Finds

#1 Post by falco67 »

This morning a friend bought me 2 air rifles that he had found in a shed for "cleaning up" as he put it.

They were in a bit of a state but a couple of hours later they looked a lot better.

I know nothing about air rifles, one of them has no markings that I can see, but has a serial number starting "CC"

The other is an A.S.I Rapid Fire Paratrooper Repeater with windage and elevation adjustment and a "magazine"? on top of the body.

both are .177.

So off to the range on Thursday to see how they shoot.

looks like a BSA cadet rifle, I used to have one of those when I was a kid, it shot very well from memory, I also had a .22 ASI paratrooper, it shot OK but was very "twangy" because of the plastic hollow stock .

What a find - I believe it's a Cadet Major, both quite collectable now. The BSA can be dated quite accurately from the serial number.

I was 16 and just returned to UK from Ireland. Where airguns are sect one.

Imagine my joy when I walked into a gunshop to be told airguns needed no licence !

The paratrooper used to be used at fairgrounds as well. Top piece of kit in the day!

with regards to the paratrooper, how was the tube used? Was it just storage for pellets or can it be used to for the "Rapidfire" bit of its title somehow?

Looking at the BSA Cadet Major, I have found one article that dates the Serial Prefix "CC" to between 1955-1962 and another that suggest 1955-57, so its getting on a bit, although not as much as me!

the rest of the serial number is 08829 but up to yet not found a list of these numbers

regards

Geoff

The tube was a spring loaded tube mag.

At the end was a block with a hole in it. Upon breaking the barrel, the block rose allowing one pellet to enter the hole. The block dropped into place when the barrel was closed.
