Uggly grey cabinet
No issue from the wife with regard to two new cabinets being fitted during building extension other than could I make them look a bit less uggly.
Any suggestions?
Not keen to respray them. Wood effect sticky plastic - but that could look even worse?!

Ooh, not wood effect plastic. Try 'disguising a gun cabinet' in Google, it brings up a few ides.
If you have £3000 to spare, you can get one which looks like a long case clock;

As most people don't have £3000 to spare though, I would presume there are cheaper alternatives, especially if you are a bit handy at the woodwork......

Get down to the salesrooms or charity shops and get hold of a big old wardrobe you could modify to cover the cabinet.

And there was us thinking this was a political post...
That aside, a trip to a charity shop (British Heart Foundation is good) will often throw up some bargain furniture - cabinets, desks and so forth that can easily be modified to slip over a gun safe...

I was going to fit mine in to a tall boy set of drawers if it were to be placed in the bedroom but managed to get it in a more suitable place.

I annexed the downstairs loo while herself was away with work.
She came back while I was out to find toilet and sink removed. Walls, floor and ceiling clad in recycled laminate flooring. And 4 x 10 rifle cabinets installed. Along with shelves for the trophies and medals she was complaining were cluttering up the house.
Now I have a compact and bijou gun room - its the only way to go ! Everything in one room - guns, jackets ( too many of those ) boots etc etc etc

Yep, old wardrobe....
When I wanted to put everything shooting related in my man-cave, i bought an old pine wardrobe from Gumtree for £10, knocked the back out and fixed it to the wall... Gun cabinet bolted to the wall inside wardrobe.

Re: Uggly grey cabinet
My cabinet and ammo safe sit inside a cheap IKEA wardrobe, a couple of wooden battens behind it to take up the gap due to the bottom of the wardrobe sitting against the skirting board and the whole lot is anchored into the wall.I shortened the rail in the wardrobe so I could hang jackets and gun bags up and mags etc sit on the top shelf so everything is in one place.
