7,62 I would probably let go. If there was any doubt I would ring the licensing department of the customer as they should know what they meant when they issued the FAC.

We deal with a lot of businesses and I am always amazed by the flippant approach to firearms and licensing some adopt...

I’d sell as an RDF any 308 against 308 be that Winchester or Norma Mag same with 7.62 x39, x51 or x54 I’d not sell a 30/06 just because it could be called 7.62x63.

Unless I am misinterpreting what you are saying I guess that means I am not 'As any RFD' despite having been a full time RFD for several years. To me a .308 Norma Mag as a belted magnum is a tad too far away from a .308 and if you are going to accept that then why not a 300WM or a 30-338LM, after all they are all 30cal, therefore by this reasoning they must be .308s right?

I am probably just a bit old fashioned in that I will not release a firearm I have worked on without sight of a valid RFD, FAC or SGC, equally I take a dim view of illegal examples including +12ft/lb air weapons.

I’m an RFD and build a few rifles.
Around here I see regularly just 308 300. My personal variation for a 308 Norma Mag came back as 308 rifle again with 7.62x39 came back as 7.62 rifle. So that coloured my interpretation. A 300 win mag or a 300 H&H or 300 NM all come back as 300 rifle and take 6-10 months. Same as 375 is it a H&H Ruger or even cheytac.

6-10 months for a variation is poor, where are you in the UK?

That was Hants move to Met recently and they are trying to finish it off.
A client waited 17 months (so I was lucky) her 375 Ruger barrel variation came back 375 imagine sending it back for a correction she’d have missed 4 trips not 2 witb her rifle.

No not an offence, and absolutely no problem buying any 7.62 or .308 calibre rifle unless your certificate stipulates and restricts you to a particular cartridge as some forces occasionally do.
.308 is .30cal. The guidance is to stop wide clambering options such as 22cf or .30cal for this very reason, however if your FAC was issued before the guidance specified it or your firearms department mess up and give it to you then happy you (only issue would be finding an RFD that would agree with your interpretation). I bet if you tell the police you are asking for a wide calibre option for this very reason it'd be changed.

As should all forces according to the guidance issued to them from the Home Office that all RFDs should be aware of.

My FAC just shows 7.62/.308 and I have never had issues buying ammo for 7.62x25, 7.62x38, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, 7.62x54 (and .308)

In my humble opinion that sounds like a very grey area, I certainly wouldn't get away with that with West Mercia and every time I have bought 7.62x54r and 7.62x39 the selling RFD has wanted to see those specific chamberings listed on my FAC!.

It goes to show how different licensing departments, and RFD's, interprete things differently!.

Give a man a gun and he can rob a bank.....give a man a bank and he can rob the world!.

More than a vested interest in 7.62x54r!
